This is the class website of Steven Mann. I teach 8th grade Technology Applications at LMS. On my website you'll find out more about me and you'll get some information about the units that we'll cover in class this year.
BIOGRAPHY
My family enjoying an Astros game.
This is my 2nd year at Lanier and my 8th year in education. I've also taught in Frisco, TX and Broken Arrow, OK. I love teaching students about technology because I love using technology. I enjoy writing code, creating graphics or designing items using 3D modeling software.
Outside of teaching I enjoy many things. I love spending time with my family, watching sports (Go Seahawks), and coaching soccer. If there were more hours in the day I'd probably spend them outside working in the yard.
2018 - 2019 UNITS OF STUDY
DIGITALÂ LIFE 101
2 Weeks
Students are introduced to the 24/7, social nature of digital media and technologies, and gain basic vocabulary and knowledge for discussing the media landscape. Students will discuss the importance of carrying out online relationships responsibly.
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR:Â INFOGRAPHICS, LOGOS & MORE
6 Weeks
Students will learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to create infographics, logos and more.
WEBSITE CREATION: HTML & CSS
4 Weeks
Students will discuss the components of a well designed website. They'll then learn how to create websites using HTML and CSS code. Students will then design responsive websites for a variety of purposes.
JAVASCRIPT ANIMATION & GAMES
9 Weeks
The unit starts off with simple shapes and builds up to more sophisticated sprite-based games, using the same programming concepts and the design process computer scientists use daily. In the final project, students will develop a personalized, interactive program.
VIDEO PRODUCTION
7 Weeks
Students will learn the basics of video production. We'll cover storyboards, camera shot types and more. Students will also learn to use video editing tools. Finally students will work together on a few projects.
3D MODELING & 3D PRINTINNG
6 Weeks
Students will explore the many career paths that utilize CAD/3D design softwares. They'll work on several projects and have the opportunity to use the Makerbot Replicator + 3D printer.
